Little Rock, Ark. – Arkansas will enjoy a brief break from summer heat Monday and Tuesday, with highs across much of the state staying below 90 degrees. That cooldown will be short-lived, as a return to hot weather is expected by midweek.
According to the National Weather Service in Little Rock, an upper-level ridge will build over the region beginning Wednesday, pushing daytime highs back into the 90s across Fort Smith, Jonesboro, Little Rock, and Texarkana. The chance of hitting or exceeding 90 degrees rises above 60% statewide from Wednesday through Sunday, making a return to summerlike heat nearly certain.
The hottest stretch looks likely Thursday through Saturday, when most cities across Arkansas will consistently reach or surpass 90. Residents in southern Arkansas, including Monticello and Texarkana, could see temperatures climb several degrees higher than the rest of the state.
Officials advise limiting outdoor activity during the peak afternoon heat later this week and drinking plenty of water to prevent heat-related illness. Those working outdoors should plan for extra breaks in shaded or air-conditioned spaces.
The heat ridge is expected to hold into the weekend, with temperatures staying above normal through at least Sunday. Additional advisories may be issued if heat index values rise further.
