LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – A surge of moisture is bringing widespread rainfall to Arkansas today, with the heaviest storms expected across the eastern and northeastern parts of the state through tonight. The National Weather Service in Little Rock has issued a Slight Risk for excessive rainfall, warning that flash flooding may develop in areas where storms repeatedly track over the same locations.
According to the Weather Prediction Center, rainfall totals could reach three to four inches in localized areas near Jonesboro, West Memphis, and Brinkley by early Tuesday. Most of central Arkansas, including Little Rock and Pine Bluff, can expect between a half inch and one inch of rain, while lighter amounts are likely farther west near Fort Smith and Mena.
Travelers along Interstates 40 and 55 should watch for ponding on roads and avoid driving through flooded areas. Residents are urged to keep drainage areas clear and have a way to receive weather alerts overnight as rainfall continues into Tuesday morning.
The risk of flash flooding should ease by late Tuesday as the system moves east, but additional rain chances may return by midweek.
