Little Rock, Ark. – A dangerous heat advisory takes effect across central and eastern Arkansas at noon Monday, with heat index values soaring as high as 110 degrees in some areas.

According to the National Weather Service in Little Rock, the advisory will remain in effect until 9 p.m., covering major cities including Little Rock, Jonesboro, Pine Bluff, and West Memphis. The combination of intense humidity and high temperatures will push heat index values between 105 and 110 degrees during peak afternoon hours.

Residents in counties such as Pulaski, Jefferson, White, Craighead, and Monroe should limit outdoor activities, drink plenty of water, and check on vulnerable neighbors. Prolonged exposure could lead to heat-related illnesses, especially for those without access to air conditioning.

The Arkansas Department of Health recommends using cooling centers and avoiding physical exertion during the hottest part of the day. Local emergency management teams are on standby, and power usage is expected to spike as residents crank up air conditioning.

This is one of the hottest stretches so far this summer, with similar conditions last recorded in July 2022. Additional advisories may follow if the heat persists into midweek.
