Little Rock, Ark. – Urban streets and highways across central Arkansas are rapidly flooding as up to 8 inches of rain drenches the region Tuesday afternoon, threatening drivers in Little Rock, Conway, and Sherwood with rising water and impassable roads.
According to the National Weather Service in Little Rock, the Flash Flood Warning remains in effect until 4:30 p.m. CDT. Doppler radar and automated gauges have recorded extreme rainfall totals from slow-moving thunderstorms. Additional rain of 0.5 to 2 inches is likely, further increasing flood risks across urban and low-lying areas.
Flash flooding is already impacting roads, underpasses, small creeks, and drainage systems across southeastern Conway, Faulkner, Lonoke, Perry, Pulaski, and Saline counties. Affected cities include West Little Rock, Maumelle, Bryant, North Little Rock, Morrilton, Mayflower, and Wrightsville.
Drivers are urged to turn around if they encounter flooded roadways—most flood-related deaths occur in vehicles. Residents should avoid unnecessary travel and monitor updates from local emergency services.
Warnings remain in effect through the late afternoon, and further advisories may be issued if rainfall persists or worsens.
