Little Rock, Ark. – Thunderstorms moving across Arkansas this afternoon are expected to intensify into the evening, bringing a risk of damaging winds across central, eastern, and northeastern parts of the state.
According to the National Weather Service in Little Rock, showers and storms will grow more widespread through late Wednesday as a disturbance pushes east from the ArkLaTex region. Stronger cells are expected to form over southern and southeastern Arkansas, with the highest threat of severe weather over the southeast and east portions of the state.
The primary concern is damaging straight-line winds, which could lead to downed trees, power outages, and hazardous driving conditions, especially on rural highways and major routes such as I-40 and I-30. Heavy downpours may also reduce visibility for commuters through the evening rush.
Emergency officials urge residents to stay alert for rapidly changing conditions, avoid unnecessary travel during severe storms, and secure outdoor items that could become projectiles in strong winds.
The storms are expected to shift east of Arkansas late Wednesday night, but additional advisories may be issued if conditions worsen.
