Albany, N.Y. – A powerful Nor’easter will push into eastern New York, western Massachusetts, and northwestern Connecticut by 1 p.m. Sunday, dropping 8 to 14 inches of snow and producing wind gusts up to 45 mph through 7 p.m. Monday. Snowfall rates could exceed 1 inch per hour late Sunday night into Monday morning, creating near-whiteout conditions during the Monday morning commute.

According to the National Weather Service in Albany, a Winter Storm Warning is in effect from 1 p.m. Sunday to 7 p.m. Monday for Litchfield County, the Berkshires, and Ulster, Greene, Columbia, and Dutchess counties. Heaviest totals are expected across the Catskills high peaks and southern portions of the region.

Road conditions will deteriorate quickly overnight.

Interstate 87, Interstate 84, and the Taconic State Parkway may become snow-covered with blowing snow reducing visibility below a quarter mile at times. In the Catskills around Hunter and Windham, higher elevations could see locally greater than 14 inches. Heavy, wet snow combined with 45 mph gusts increases the risk of downed limbs and scattered power outages, including in Poughkeepsie, Kingston, and Pittsfield.

Residents should delay travel and charge essential devices before snowfall intensifies Sunday night. The strongest winds are expected late Sunday night through Monday afternoon, prolonging travel impacts even after the heaviest snow tapers.

Snow and wind impacts will continue through early Monday evening, and the Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 7 p.m. Monday.
