Lincoln, NE – A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect for eastern Nebraska and southwest Iowa from 3 p.m. Friday through midnight Saturday night, as a storm system brings a mix of snow, freezing rain, and gusty winds to the region.
According to the National Weather Service in Omaha/Valley, precipitation will begin as a light mix of snow and freezing rain Friday evening, before changing to all snow overnight and continuing through Saturday. Total snow accumulations are expected to reach 2 to 6 inches across most areas, with isolated totals near 7 inches possible in Knox and Pierce Counties.
Winds could gust as high as 35 mph, causing blowing snow and reduced visibility, particularly in open and rural areas. The combination of light ice and accumulating snow will create slick, hazardous roads, especially during the evening and overnight hours.
Officials advise drivers to slow down and use caution on all roadways. Residents planning to travel should check the latest updates through 511 in Nebraska or Iowa before heading out.
Snow is expected to taper off late Saturday night, but temperatures will remain below freezing into Sunday, keeping roads icy into the weekend.
