Hastings, Neb. – Strong thunderstorms are expected to develop across Nebraska late Sunday night, bringing the risk of hail and damaging winds through early Monday morning. The National Weather Service warns the most intense storms could produce quarter-size hail and wind gusts approaching 60 mph.

According to the National Weather Service in Hastings, the window for the strongest storms will stretch from 9 p.m. Sunday through 4 a.m. Monday. Areas most at risk include central and eastern Nebraska, with communities such as Hastings, Kearney, Grand Island, Lincoln, and Columbus highlighted for potential impacts.

Motorists traveling overnight on Interstate 80 may face reduced visibility and slick conditions from heavy rain. Power outages are also possible where winds topple tree limbs or down power lines. Emergency officials urge residents to secure loose outdoor items and avoid unnecessary travel during peak storm hours.

While the tornado threat remains low, forecasters caution that the fast-moving nature of the storms could lead to rapidly changing conditions. Weaker storms may develop earlier in the evening before stronger systems arrive overnight.

Warnings remain possible through early Monday as storms track east.
