Lincoln, IL – Breezy southwest winds will boost afternoon temperatures into the upper 30s to mid-40s across central Illinois Tuesday, but a strong cold front moving in overnight will bring a sharp change, according to the National Weather Service in Lincoln.

Forecasters expect rain developing late Tuesday night, with a 60% chance of precipitation. By Wednesday afternoon, gusty northwest winds up to 40 mph and falling temperatures will shift rain to light snow in parts of the region. Highs Wednesday will range from 35° to 46°, dropping into the teens and 20s overnight.

Thursday through Saturday will stay cold, with highs in the 20s to mid-30s and nighttime lows plunging to single digits. Wind chills could reach –10° to –20° by Friday night into Saturday morning.

Drivers should prepare for slick conditions during Wednesday’s transition period and monitor local updates for potential light snow late week.
