North Platte, NE – A routine traffic stop along Interstate 80 in central Nebraska led to a significant drug arrest Tuesday afternoon, with troopers seizing six pounds of suspected cocaine near Maxwell.
According to the Nebraska State Patrol, the stop happened around 4:00 p.m. Tuesday when a trooper observed a Jeep Cherokee speeding along I-80 in Lincoln County. During the stop, the trooper reportedly detected the odor of marijuana coming from inside the vehicle, prompting further investigation.
Authorities say a search of the vehicle uncovered approximately six pounds of cocaine concealed in a bag in the rear area. A small amount of marijuana was also reportedly found during the search. Investigators determined the drugs were allegedly in the possession of a passenger in the vehicle.
The passenger, identified as 36-year-old Tyesha Martin of Cleveland, Ohio, was arrested at the scene. According to officials, she allegedly faces charges of possession of cocaine and possession with intent to deliver.
Martin was booked into the Lincoln County Jail following the arrest. No additional details have been released about the driver or whether further charges are expected.
Interstate 80 is a major cross-country corridor frequently monitored by law enforcement for drug trafficking activity, particularly through central Nebraska.
