Lima, OH – A prolonged round of weekend snow will spread into Allen County early Saturday, creating steadily worsening travel conditions and periods of reduced visibility through Sunday evening.

According to the National Weather Service Northern Indiana office, a Winter Weather Advisory goes into effect at 7 a.m. Saturday and continues through 7 p.m. Sunday. Most of Allen County is expected to receive 3 to 5 inches of accumulation, with occasional gusts between 25 and 35 mph producing drifting in open areas. Officials warn that cold pavement temperatures will allow snow to stick quickly, especially along rural corridors west and south of Lima.

According to the Ohio Department of Transportation, primary routes including I-75, SR-309, and SR-65 may become snow covered during the late morning hours Saturday as bands intensify. Crews will begin pretreatment overnight, but steady snow rates could still outpace plow cycles. Drivers should reduce speed, allow extra braking distance, and avoid unnecessary travel through the heaviest bands. ODOT urges motorists to check 511 for updated road conditions before heading out.

According to Allen County emergency management, minor blowing and drifting could affect school-related weekend activities and church travel Sunday morning. Residents should charge phones, monitor local alerts, and keep winter kits—gloves, blankets, and ice scrapers—in their vehicles. Winds may cause brief visibility drops in open farmland, particularly along north–south roads.

Snow is expected to ease late Sunday, but temperatures remain cold enough for lingering slick patches into Sunday night.
