LIMA, N.Y. – A 20-year-old Lima resident faces felony charges after allegedly sending explicit messages to a 14-year-old, prompting a multi-state investigation.

According to the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office, investigators were contacted in November 2025 by the Orange County Sheriff’s Office in California regarding reports that an adult male had sent inappropriate messages to a child in their jurisdiction.

Authorities said the investigation determined that Aiden Kelly, 20, allegedly sent sexually explicit messages to the teen after the two met online through a game. Officials reported that Kelly formed an online relationship with the child lasting more than a month, during which thousands of messages were exchanged.

On Thursday, February 12, sheriff’s investigators arrested Kelly and charged him with Disseminating Indecent Material to Minors in the First Degree, a Class D felony under New York law.

Kelly was processed at the Livingston County Jail and arraigned in Livingston County Centralized Arraignment Part before Town of Avon Justice Hoffman. According to authorities, he was released on his own recognizance because the charge does not qualify for bail under the New York State Bail Reform Act.

The Livingston County Public Defender’s Office represented Kelly at arraignment. The Livingston County District Attorney’s Office appeared on behalf of the People.

The investigation involved the Livingston County Sheriff’s Criminal Investigations Division, Patrol Division and Forensic Identification Unit, with assistance from the Monroe County and Orange County sheriff’s offices.

Young people who use online gaming platforms are often encouraged by law enforcement to report suspicious contact.
