Safety Tips: What to Do in Case of a Lightning Strike
Though the family was fortunate, lightning strikes can cause life-threatening damage. If caught in a similar situation, here are some crucial safety tips to follow:
- Pull Over and Stay Inside: If lightning strikes nearby, safely pull over and stay inside your vehicle. The metal frame can act as a Faraday cage, protecting you from the lightning.
- Avoid Touching Electrical Components: Do not touch electrical systems, such as your car’s radio or steering wheel, as these may become live during a lightning strike.
- Wait for Safety: Wait until the storm passes before getting out of the vehicle. It’s essential to stay inside to avoid the risk of being struck.
- Monitor Weather Alerts: Always be aware of weather warnings and avoid traveling during severe weather to minimize exposure to lightning hazards.
