Eureka, Calif. – Northern Trinity County could see thunderstorms this afternoon and evening, raising wildfire concerns as gusty winds and lightning develop with little rainfall expected.

According to the National Weather Service in Eureka, there is a 10 to 15 percent chance of storms in the region through Saturday night. While measurable rain is unlikely, any storm that forms could generate erratic outflow winds and dangerous lightning strikes capable of sparking new fires.

Emergency officials warn that outdoor activity should be limited during peak storm hours. Lightning safety guidance urges residents to head indoors when thunder is heard, and to avoid taking shelter under trees or in open spaces. Strong, shifting winds may also make fire behavior unpredictable if new ignitions occur.

Communities across northern Trinity County, including areas near Weaverville and surrounding backcountry, should stay alert for rapid weather changes. With fuels already dry, forecasters caution that any lightning strikes could quickly spread flames.

Storm chances are expected to fade overnight, though forecasters note additional advisories could be issued if conditions worsen.
