A chance for wintry precipitation will develop across portions of the Texas Panhandle Wednesday night into early Thursday morning, according to the National Weather Service in Lubbock.

Forecasters say the greatest potential for light snow or a wintry mix will be across the far southwest Panhandle, including areas near Muleshoe, Dimmitt, and Silverton, where probabilities for at least 0.1 inch of snowfall range from 20% to 50%.

Most of the Lubbock area will see lower chances, around 10% to 30%, with only a light dusting of snow expected, if any. Precipitation types could include snow, a wintry mix, or cold rain, depending on local temperatures and timing of the cold front.

This system arrives behind a cold front moving through the region Wednesday, bringing colder air that will linger into Thursday. Overnight lows will dip into the 20s and 30s, with daytime highs Thursday remaining near or below freezing in the Panhandle.

While significant accumulation or impacts are not expected, slick roads and icy bridges could develop in localized areas if snow or freezing drizzle occurs. Residents are urged to monitor forecasts, bring pets indoors, and bundle up if traveling late Wednesday night or early Thursday.

Conditions will improve later Thursday as precipitation exits to the east, though cold and breezy weather will persist through the end of the week.
