Memphis, TN – The US National Weather Service Memphis warns of a light wintry mix developing across portions of the Mid-South this afternoon and evening, mainly along and north of the I-40 corridor.
Forecasters say there is a 30–50% chance of a mix of snow, sleet, and freezing rain, with little to no accumulation expected. However, light icing could develop on bridges, overpasses, and elevated surfaces, leading to potentially slippery travel conditions during the evening commute.
Timing:
- Afternoon through early evening: Light wintry mix develops, especially north of Memphis.
- Evening: Spotty slick spots possible as temperatures hover near freezing.
Drivers are urged to slow down, allow extra following distance, and use caution on elevated roadways. Even minor ice accumulations can create hazardous travel conditions.
Impacts are expected to remain limited, but conditions could worsen briefly during heavier bursts of precipitation.
