Des Moines, IA – The National Weather Service in Des Moines reports that very cold conditions will continue tonight across Iowa, with lows ranging from -5°F to 7°F and wind chills dipping below zero, especially in the northeast.
Light snow is likely across northern Iowa tonight, with minor accumulations under one inch expected. Winds will remain light from the east-southeast at 3 to 8 mph.
Temperatures will moderate slightly Monday, with highs between 25°F and 35°F, before turning even warmer on Tuesday, when highs climb into the upper 30s to mid-40s.
However, a strong cold front is forecast to arrive Tuesday night, bringing gusty northwest winds up to 40 mph and a quick drop in temperatures. A brief mix of rain or snow is possible in northern parts of the state before colder, drier air moves in.
By Wednesday, highs will only reach the 20s and low 30s, with wind chills making it feel much colder.
Residents are urged to prepare for rapidly changing temperatures and windy conditions midweek, particularly if traveling or working outdoors.
