Grand Rapids, MI – Snow showers are moving across Southern Michigan today, with light accumulations expected through the evening. Motorists along I-69, particularly between Charlotte and Flint, should prepare for slick road conditions and reduced visibility during heavier bursts of snow.

According to the National Weather Service, Southern Michigan can expect between 0.5 to 1 inch of snow in most areas, with localized spots near Flint seeing up to 3 inches. The snow will mainly accumulate on grassy and elevated surfaces, though untreated roads may become slippery during heavier snowfall.

New Year’s Day on Wednesday brings a continued chance of light snow showers with cloudy skies and a high of 33 degrees. Winds will shift northward at 9 to 14 mph, with gusts reaching up to 20 mph, adding to the chilly conditions.

The extended forecast shows a cooling trend heading into Thursday, with daytime highs near 28 degrees and mostly cloudy skies. By Friday, temperatures drop further, with highs of 26 and lows nearing 19 degrees, keeping Southern Michigan locked in winter weather through the weekend.

Drivers are urged to exercise caution on highways and local roads today. Ensure your vehicle is winter-ready, and check weather updates frequently if you’re traveling across the I-69 corridor.
