NEW YORK — A weak low-pressure system passing south of the region early Wednesday is expected to bring light rain to parts of the New York City area, especially along the coast, the National Weather Service said.

Forecasters said a few wet snowflakes may mix in well northwest of the city before precipitation tapers off by mid- to late morning. Skies are expected to become partly cloudy in the afternoon.

Morning temperatures will start in the upper 20s to low 30s inland and in the low to mid-30s near the coast. Highs are forecast to rebound into the upper 40s to around 50 degrees by late day.

Winds will be light from the north to northeast at 5 to 10 mph
