Florida’s Treasure Coast – A hazardous weather alert has been issued for central Florida beaches this weekend as rip currents create dangerous conditions along the Treasure Coast and southern Brevard County. Swimmers are strongly advised to avoid entering the surf, with high rip current risks posing a life-threatening danger through Sunday. The National Weather Service (NWS) warns of powerful currents across popular beach destinations, impacting locals and tourists alike.
According to the NWS in Melbourne, the heightened rip current risk extends from Volusia to Martin counties. Those visiting or living near these beaches should heed warnings and only swim in areas with a lifeguard present. Coastal fog, dense in some areas, may also cause reduced visibility on major roads and highways, including Interstate 4. Drivers are encouraged to exercise caution, especially in the early morning when fog is densest.
Along with coastal hazards, central Florida is expected to experience mild autumn temperatures, with highs near 84 degrees today and similar conditions persisting through Tuesday. Low temperatures will dip into the mid-60s to low-70s each night, creating cooler evenings for outdoor activities. Sunny skies will dominate the extended forecast, though isolated thunderstorms could occur Tuesday afternoon, bringing a 20% chance of rain and gusts of up to 25 mph.
Boaters should note that surf and boating conditions are expected to deteriorate early next week due to shifting easterly winds, leading to rougher seas. Residents and visitors are urged to stay informed through local weather updates and avoid dangerous water conditions through mid-week.
