Walsh County, North Dakota — Emergency officials are urging residents to avoid all travel as dangerous blizzard conditions continue across the county.

Walsh County is currently under a No Travel Advisory due to extremely hazardous winter weather. Visibility has been reduced to around 50 feet, while wind gusts between 50 and 70 mph are producing blowing and drifting snow, creating near-whiteout conditions.

Earlier freezing rain has left a layer of ice beneath snow-covered roads, making travel surfaces extremely slick and unpredictable. The combination of ice, heavy snow, and powerful winds significantly increases the risk of crashes, stranded vehicles, and exposure to dangerous cold.

Officials stress that any travel is considered extremely dangerous, even for experienced winter drivers. Emergency response times may be delayed due to poor visibility and impassable roads.

Residents are encouraged to remain indoors, avoid non-essential travel, and continue monitoring updates from local emergency management and the National Weather Service.

Motorists who become stranded could face rapidly worsening conditions as snow drifts, visibility drops suddenly, and strong winds intensify wind chills.
