Plum Grove, Texas – The National Weather Service has confirmed two EF-0 tornadoes touched down in Liberty County during storms Tuesday afternoon, producing localized damage but no reported injuries or fatalities.
According to the National Weather Service Houston–Galveston, the tornadoes occurred as a supercell thunderstorm moved across the Plum Grove area, with rotation briefly lifting and then redeveloping east of the East Fork of the San Jacinto River.
The first tornado, identified as Plum Grove Segment 1, touched down between 3:24 and 3:25 p.m. CST near County Road 3708 and County Road 3709, just west of the river. Survey teams estimated peak winds of 80 mph, consistent with an EF-0 rating. The damage path measured 0.28 miles long and 65 yards wide, primarily affecting trees and fences. Some power lines were reported down, though utility poles remained upright.
The second tornado, Plum Grove Segment 2, developed minutes later between 3:27 and 3:33 p.m. CST, beginning near FM 1010 and continuing eastward toward County Road 3406. This tornado had estimated peak winds of 85 mph, also rated EF-0, with a longer damage path of 1.76 miles and a width of 120 yards.
Survey officials noted the most significant damage occurred near a metal structure along FM 1010, which was largely destroyed. Additional damage was reported in the Bella Vista subdivision, where trees and fences were damaged. No damage was observed beyond the intersection of CR 3404 and CR 3410.
The National Weather Service emphasized that these findings are preliminary and based on field surveys, aerial data, and satellite imagery. Further refinements are possible as assessments continue.
