Hastings, Nebraska – Hot and mostly dry conditions will dominate south-central Nebraska today, with a few isolated thunderstorms possible near Lexington and St. Paul by late afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service in Hastings, a small number of storms could develop Sunday between mid to late afternoon, especially northwest of a Lexington–St. Paul line. Any rain should taper off by evening, with dry skies returning overnight.

Monday stays hot and dry across the region, with highs in the low to mid-90s and light southerly winds. By Tuesday, however, storm chances increase again—especially in the evening and overnight—as moisture returns. Wind speeds may pick up slightly from the south, ranging from 15 to 20 mph.

Cities like Kearney, Grand Island, and Holdrege should prepare for the return of scattered thunderstorms on Tuesday and Wednesday, though exact timing remains uncertain. Localized lightning, wind gusts, or brief downpours are possible during these periods.

Residents are advised to avoid outdoor work during peak afternoon heat, stay hydrated, and keep weather alerts active through midweek. Conditions will briefly cool by Wednesday, then rebound into the 90s by next weekend.
