Lexington, Kentucky – Isolated thunderstorms capable of producing damaging wind and quarter-sized hail could sweep across parts of central and southern Kentucky this afternoon through evening.
According to the National Weather Service in Jackson, a marginal risk for severe weather is in place until 8 a.m. Friday, with the highest threat concentrated from Lexington to Somerset and Hazard. The primary hazards include wind gusts over 40 mph and hail up to 1 inch in diameter.
Cities such as London, Morehead, and Jackson may see short bursts of strong storms between 3 p.m. and 9 p.m., particularly along I-75 and the Mountain Parkway. Outdoor plans and evening commutes could be impacted by quick-moving cells with localized wind damage.
Residents are advised to secure loose outdoor items, avoid parking under trees, and stay weather-aware using NOAA Weather Radio or smartphone alerts. While the storm risk is limited, fast-developing cells can still cause power outages and minor damage.
The marginal risk will taper off overnight, but additional rain chances remain in the forecast heading into the weekend.
