Lexington, Ky. – Heavy rain and strong thunderstorms will impact much of Kentucky through Thursday, with the National Weather Service warning of possible localized flooding in low-lying and poor-drainage areas. Some storms could bring torrential rainfall, especially on Wednesday and Thursday, when storm chances peak.

According to the National Weather Service in Jackson, scattered showers and storms are expected each day this week, with coverage and intensity increasing midweek. The repetitive nature of the storms may overwhelm drainage systems in cities like Lexington, Hazard, and Richmond, increasing flood risk along creeks and roadways. Afternoon highs will range from the mid-80s to low 90s, with muggy overnight lows near 70.

Drivers should avoid flooded roads, keep an eye on weather alerts, and allow extra travel time during peak rain periods. Outdoor events may face delays or cancellations, particularly Wednesday afternoon through Thursday evening.

More rounds of storms are possible into the weekend, and additional advisories may be issued if flooding becomes widespread.
