Lexington, SC – A Lexington County woman is accused of robbing a convenience store at knifepoint early Monday, according to deputies.

Katrina Nicole Diaz, 39, of Gaston, is charged with armed robbery, three counts of assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature, and possession of a weapon during a violent crime, the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department announced.

According to Sheriff Jay Koon, deputies responded to a store on Edmund Highway after receiving a report of a robbery in progress. When a deputy arrived, he allegedly saw Diaz at the back of the store holding a knife and eating an ice cream bar. She was quickly handcuffed and detained.

Store employees told deputies Diaz had asked to use the store phone before attempting to leave with a display case of lighters. When told she could not take the lighters, she allegedly pulled a knife. Employees locked themselves inside an office as Diaz reportedly walked around the store damaging merchandise.

Deputies arrested Diaz after their investigation. She is being held at the Lexington County Detention Center.
