Chehalis, WA – Detectives in Lewis County have arrested a Mineral woman after the death of her infant was ruled a controlled substance homicide, authorities confirmed Thursday.

According to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office, detectives began investigating the death of a 3½-month-old infant on October 22, 2025, after she was transported by ambulance from the 100 block of Pleasant Valley Road in Mineral. Samples collected during the autopsy later tested positive for methamphetamine.

On November 6, detectives returned to the home with a search warrant after confirming the toxicology results. Investigators say they gathered additional evidence and arrested the infant’s mother, 31-year-old Elizabeth Simpson, on suspicion of Controlled Substance Homicide.

The sheriff’s office reported that other children in the home were taken into protective custody by Child Protective Services. The case remains active, and no additional information is being released at this time.
