Leesburg, Virginia – A narrow but impactful winter snow event will move into Eastern Loudoun County late tonight, bringing slippery roads and up to two inches of accumulation by Sunday morning. The timing targets the overnight hours into the early commute, raising concerns for untreated roads and reduced visibility.

Snow is expected to begin around midnight after a brief period of rain this evening. Conditions quickly turn colder overnight, allowing snow to accumulate on roadways, bridges, and sidewalks. The steadiest snow is most likely between about 2 a.m. and 8 a.m., with a narrow band of heavier snow possible late tonight that could briefly reduce visibility to under a half mile.

According to the National Weather Service office in Baltimore/Washington, a Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from midnight tonight through 10 a.m. Sunday for Eastern Loudoun County. Total snow accumulations are expected to reach up to two inches, though localized amounts could be higher where heavier snow bands develop. Areas near Leesburg, Ashburn, Sterling, and along Route 7 and Route 28 are most likely to see slick conditions by daybreak.

Travel could become hazardous overnight and early Sunday, especially on secondary roads and elevated surfaces. According to VDOT, bridges and overpasses tend to ice over first during marginal snow events like this. Drivers heading out early Sunday should slow down, increase following distance, and allow extra time.

Residents are encouraged to prepare for rapidly changing conditions overnight. Sidewalks and driveways may become slick quickly, increasing fall risk. Those with early-morning plans should monitor road conditions and be ready for brief delays. Temperatures rise slowly Sunday afternoon, helping conditions improve after the advisory expires.
