Lee County Sheriff Probes 16-Year-Old Girl’s Death Homicide in Apartment

Ashton, IL – A 16-year-old girl was found dead in an Ashton apartment Monday morning. Authorities allege a 17-year-old male suspect, who reported the incident, may be involved.

According to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, Rochelle Police received the suspect at their station around 7:04 a.m. He provided details of the homicide and an address, leading deputies to the scene at 702 Richardson Avenue, Apartment A. Inside, officers discovered the girl’s body.

Authorities have not released additional details, citing the ongoing investigation and the need to notify the victim’s family. The sheriff’s office stated that the incident appears to be linked to domestic violence. Officials assure the public that there is no current threat to community safety.

Multiple agencies, including the Lee County State’s Attorney’s Office, Illinois State Police, and Rochelle Police, are assisting with the investigation.
