Compton, IL – A North Aurora man was killed Friday evening in a single-motorcycle crash at the intersection of Illinois Route 251 and Chicago Road in rural Compton — the same location where two other fatal accidents have occurred since June.
According to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded at approximately 7:02 p.m. Friday to the crash involving a 2022 Harley Davidson driven by 67-year-old Alan P. Klimas. Klimas was traveling southbound on Route 251 with a group of motorcycles when they approached the intersection, which had wet pavement from a recent thunderstorm. Investigators said the group realized too late they needed to turn left onto Chicago Road. Klimas laid his motorcycle down on the pavement, suffering major injuries. He was transported to OSF Saint Paul in Mendota, where he was pronounced dead.
The Sheriff’s Office said the Compton Fire Department, Paw Paw Fire Department, and LaSalle County Coroner’s Office assisted at the scene. Officials noted that the intersection has been the site of three fatalities in the last two months.
On June 9, a crash there claimed the lives of 16-year-old Chasity J. Stavenhagen of Earlville and her passenger, 20-year-old Kevin Kain of West Brooklyn. On July 3, another accident at the same location left 42-year-old Robert Park of Sycamore seriously injured; he was airlifted to OSF St. Anthony Medical Center in Rockford.
Authorities have not indicated if any safety changes are planned for the intersection.
