Dixon, IL – A single-vehicle crash in Lee County left a 53-year-old man seriously injured Thursday night.
According to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, the Lee County 911 Center received an automated crash detection alert at approximately 8:05 p.m. Thursday, February 12, from a cellphone near the Green River on Pump Factory Road south of Arch Road.
Deputies responded and located a 2013 Chevrolet Silverado that had struck a guardrail. The driver and sole occupant, Corry Zimmerly, 53, of rural Amboy, was trapped inside the vehicle.
Authorities said the first responding deputy broke a window to access Zimmerly. After assessing his injuries and applying two tourniquets, emergency crews began extrication efforts. The Amboy Fire Department, Sublette Fire Department and Dixon Rural Fire Department assisted at the scene.
Due to the severity of the injuries, OSF Life Flight from Peru was contacted and transported Zimmerly to OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center in Rockford.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation. The Sheriff’s Office confirmed that an accident reconstructionist was called to examine the scene. No additional information about the circumstances of the collision has been released.
Pump Factory Road remained active with emergency responders during the rescue and investigation, though officials did not specify the duration of any traffic disruption. Evening crashes along rural roadways can affect commuters and shift workers traveling after dark.
Authorities said the investigation is ongoing.
