Fort Myers, FL – The Lee County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a series of overnight swatting threats made against Lee County Schools, officials confirmed early Wednesday morning.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, School Threat Enforcement Detectives worked through the night after receiving the false emergency calls. Deputies emphasized that threats of any kind—particularly those involving schools—are taken extremely seriously.

The Sheriff’s Office said patrols will increase in and around local schools and at school events to protect students, staff, and parents. “We remain vigilant in our efforts to keep you safe,” the department wrote in a public information release posted on social media.

Swatting refers to the act of making false emergency reports to provoke a heavy police response. While no credible danger has been confirmed, authorities are treating the situation with caution.

Residents are urged to report any suspicious behavior to law enforcement immediately. “See it, say it, make the call,” the Sheriff’s Office said.
