Lee County, FL — A traffic stop in Lee County led deputies to allegedly uncover explosives, firearms and methamphetamine, prompting multiple felony charges against a 47-year-old man.
According to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, detectives with the Tactical Narcotics Unit stopped Christian Vasconcellos on Friday during a traffic investigation. During the stop, deputies reported discovering methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia, a firearm and roughly 300 rounds of ammunition inside the vehicle.
Investigators also determined Vasconcellos allegedly had an active court order prohibiting him from possessing firearms after being released from custody in Collier County less than a week earlier, authorities said.
The investigation expanded when detectives obtained a search warrant for Vasconcellos’ residence. During that search, deputies reported locating multiple explosive devices and a large cache of weapons and ammunition.
According to the sheriff’s office, investigators seized:
- 8 explosive devices
- 4 rifles
- 3 shotguns
- 6 handguns
- 3 firearm suppressors
- 4 tasers
- Approximately 8,000 rounds of ammunition
- 27 grams of methamphetamine
The Lee County Sheriff’s Office Bomb Squad responded and safely conducted controlled destruction of the explosive devices. Federal agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) also assisted with the investigation.
Sheriff Carmine Marceno said in a statement that investigators and bomb technicians prevented what could have become a serious public safety threat.
Vasconcellos was transported to the Lee County Jail and faces multiple charges, including trafficking methamphetamine and eight counts of manufacturing or possessing explosive devices, according to authorities. The investigation remains ongoing.
Large multi-agency investigations like this often draw attention across the region, especially among younger residents and commuters who follow local safety alerts through social media.
