Fort Myers, FL – A sweeping fraud investigation in Lee County has uncovered what deputies describe as a months-long credit card scheme allegedly involving more than 200 victims, thousands of dollars in losses, and an inmate at the Lee County Jail.

According to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, the case began earlier this year when Community Service Officers responded to a fraud report on Woodridge Circle. Deputies learned the victim’s credit card had allegedly been used multiple times to transfer funds to an inmate. That discovery led Economic Crimes Unit detectives to identify two suspects: Veronica Reyes and Darnell Morgan, the latter currently incarcerated at the jail.

Detectives say further investigation revealed 20 additional victims shortly after the initial report. Reyes allegedly accessed credit card information from a previous workplace, created a profile through Oasis Management, and used it to deposit funds into several inmates’ accounts, according to investigators.

On November 11, detectives executed a search warrant at Reyes’ home, where they reportedly found more than 1,600 Post-it notes containing personal data, credit card numbers, expiration dates, and home addresses. Investigators allege Reyes copied around 200 credit card numbers and placed roughly $20,000 in fraudulent orders over a five-month span.

Based on the investigation, deputies reported that Reyes faces charges including:
• One count of grand theft between $5,000 and $10,000
• One count of scheme to defraud
• Thirty counts of fraudulent use of a credit card over $100
• Thirty counts of using another person’s identification
• One count of possession of personal identification

Morgan was also charged with one count of scheme to defraud, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
