Lee County, FL – A Florida man was cited after crashing into the rear of a stopped school bus and becoming wedged underneath it during the morning commute, authorities said Wednesday.
According to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded around 8:50 a.m. to a crash involving a Jaguar that struck the back of a school bus as it approached a designated bus stop. Video from the scene shows the vehicle failing to slow down before impact.
Officials confirmed there were no students on board at the time of the crash. The bus driver was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries.
Deputies cited the driver for allegedly following too closely. Authorities have not released his name.
The Sheriff’s Office said that since implementing the BusPatrol safety program, two citations have already been issued to drivers at the same bus stop location.
“The safety of our students going to and from school is our top priority,” Sheriff Carmine Marceno said in a statement, noting that increased patrols have been directed to the area.
The incident highlights the importance of slowing down and staying alert around school buses, particularly during morning pickup hours when children may be nearby.
Additional details will be released as they become available.
