LeClaire, IA – Fatal Collision Involving Van and Train Claims Life

LeClaire, IA – A fatal accident occurred early this morning in LeClaire, Iowa, when a Dodge Ram van collided with a locomotive. The crash, which took place at approximately 8:57 AM in the 2300 block of S. Cody Rd., involved a 2021 Dodge Ram Promaster Van and a train hauling railcars.

According to the Scott County Sheriff’s Office, the van was traveling south on Canal Shore Dr. SW when it struck the train traveling west at the same time. The lone occupant of the van, identified as an 84-year-old man from Davenport, Iowa, was pronounced dead at the scene after being treated by emergency medical personnel.

The incident is under investigation by the Scott County Sheriff’s Office Accident Investigation Team, with support from the Scott County Medic EMS, LeClaire Police Department, LeClaire Fire Department, Scott County GIS, and the Scott County Emergency Communication Center.

This tragic accident marks another reminder of the risks posed by rail crossings in the area, and authorities continue to investigate the cause of the collision.
