Boston, Massachusetts – A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect across much of Massachusetts and portions of Connecticut as light snow and isolated icing are expected to affect travel late Tuesday through early Wednesday morning.

According to the National Weather Service in Boston, periods of light to moderate snow will begin late Tuesday afternoon, spreading from west to east across the region before tapering off overnight. Snow is expected to end from west to east late tonight into early Wednesday morning.

Forecast snowfall totals range from 2 to 4 inches across northeast Massachusetts, including the Boston metro area, Lawrence, and Gloucester. Areas of central and western Massachusetts, including Worcester and Springfield, are expected to receive 1 to 3 inches, with locally higher totals possible in isolated spots. Portions of central Connecticut may see a coating to 2 inches.

In addition to snow, light freezing drizzle is possible late tonight, mainly across southwestern Massachusetts and parts of central Connecticut. While ice accumulations are expected to remain minimal, even a light glaze could lead to slick conditions on untreated surfaces.

Roadways including Interstates 93, 90 (Mass Pike), 95, 495, and 91 may become slippery, particularly during the evening commute and overnight hours. Bridges, overpasses, and secondary roads are most susceptible to icing as temperatures hover near freezing.

The National Weather Service advises motorists to use caution while traveling, allow extra stopping distance, and be alert for changing road conditions. Pedestrians should also use care on sidewalks and steps where snow and ice may accumulate.

This system is described as a fast-moving clipper, limiting overall snowfall but increasing the risk for brief travel disruptions during peak travel times. Conditions are expected to improve Wednesday morning as precipitation exits the region.
