Lawrence County, IN – A burglary investigation that began in early November has led to the arrest of two Bedford men on felony burglary, firearm, and drug-related charges, according to the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office.

According to the sheriff’s office, on November 10, Sgt. Robin Compton responded to a reported burglary in the 4000 block of SR 450. A nearby resident and family member reported seeing a tan-colored SUV leaving the area earlier that morning. The witness contacted the homeowner, who was at work at the time and confirmed no one should have been at the residence.

When the homeowner returned, a .22-caliber handgun was found missing. Based on the vehicle description, the homeowner reportedly believed the suspect could be Jay Wright, 23, of Bedford, who allegedly had a prior relationship with the victim.

Investigators conducted interviews, reviewed nearby surveillance footage, gathered electronic location data, and used additional investigative techniques to establish probable cause. Sgt. Compton later submitted a warrant request for Wright, which was approved through Lawrence County Superior Court 1.

On Monday, December 22, around 10:00 p.m., Sgt. Compton and Sgt. Whitney Daugherty located a vehicle believed to be driven by Wright near SR 37 and 39th Street. A traffic stop was conducted without incident, and Wright was taken into custody.

During the stop, officers encountered a passenger identified as Kaden Wilson, 28, of Bedford. Authorities reported locating multiple loaded hypodermic syringes containing substances that field-tested positive for methamphetamine and fentanyl.

Wright was arrested on warrants for Burglary (Level 4 Felony) and Theft of a Firearm (Level 5 Felony), along with new charges of Possession of Methamphetamine and Possession of Hypodermic Syringes (both Level 6 Felonies). Wilson was also arrested on Level 6 felony charges related to methamphetamine and syringe possession. Both men were booked into the Lawrence County Jail.

All criminal defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law. Anyone with information related to criminal activity is encouraged to contact the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office or submit tips through official channels.
