Quincy, Calif. – The Plumas County Sheriff’s Office on Sunday released an update praising the rapid actions of the first California Highway Patrol (CHP) officer who responded to a deadly shooting on Highway 395 in Lassen County.
According to the update, the officer secured the scene, rendered medical aid and coordinated with allied agencies after arriving during an active shooting between two groups who had pulled over along the southbound side of Highway 395 near the Long Valley Agricultural Inspection Station on Saturday morning. The shooting left two people dead at the scene.
The Sheriff’s Office said its thoughts “remain with those affected,” emphasizing the scale of the response and the efforts by partnering agencies.
According to CHP’s earlier statement, the incident began around 8:50 a.m. when two vehicles, each carrying multiple residents of Reno, Nevada, stopped on the shoulder and became involved in a confrontation. A CHP officer on patrol in the area arrived as shots were fired. The officer immediately detained all individuals involved and began administering medical aid.
Despite lifesaving attempts, two people died from their injuries. CHP said all individuals believed to be connected to the shooting have been identified and that there is no ongoing threat to the public.
Southbound Highway 395 was shut down for an extended period Saturday as investigators processed the scene, with traffic diverted onto Red Rock Road.
