Streator, IL – A 21-year-old man sustained severe injuries in a crash involving his trail bike Friday night. The incident occurred around 9:41 p.m. at the intersection of Hickory and Bloomington streets.
According to the Streator Police Department, the man was seen riding recklessly through town, prompting an officer to attempt a pursuit. The officer refrained from chasing due to safety concerns. The biker cut through parking lots, dashed up sidewalks, and ran a red light on Hickory Street before being struck by a motorist traveling southbound on Bloomington Street.
The Streator Fire Department arrived swiftly, providing critical care before the man was transported to OSF Hospital. The trail bike was heavily damaged and towed from the scene. Authorities report the bike lacked necessary safety features, including headlights and turn signals, contributing to the danger.
Police are investigating the incident and remind residents of the hazards posed by unlicensed motor vehicles on city streets. The condition of the young man remains unknown.
