Streator, IL – A 17-year-old male was taken into custody after reports of gunfire in Streator on Wednesday night, police said.
According to the Streator Police Department, officers responded at approximately 7:45 p.m. on October 1 to the 600 block of East Hickory Street following reports of shots fired. Evidence confirmed a gun had been discharged in the area.
Shortly after, an occupied vehicle arrived at the police department showing damage consistent with being shot, officials reported. Investigators then identified and located a suspect in South Streator.
Police said the juvenile male was detained and brought to the Streator Police Department for questioning. He was preliminarily charged with two counts of aggravated assault and one count of aggravated discharge of a firearm. The teen was later transported to the LaSalle County Juvenile Detention Center.
The Livingston County Sheriff’s Office assisted Streator police during the investigation.
Authorities emphasized that all suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
