Ottawa, IL – The LaSalle County Sheriff’s Office reported three arrests for driving under the influence and issued dozens of citations as part of its Labor Day weekend traffic enforcement campaign.

According to a release from the LaSalle County Sheriff’s Office on Wednesday, deputies conducted a countywide impaired driving enforcement effort that led to 23 seat belt citations and 13 speeding tickets. Officials said two of the DUI arrests occurred during nighttime patrols.

In addition, deputies cited drivers for no insurance (12), driving while license suspended (2), expired registration (6), no valid registration (3), and suspended registration (3). Other violations included fleeing or attempting to elude police (1), possession of adult-use cannabis (1), possession of a controlled substance (1), and other traffic violations (8).

Sheriff Adam Diss said the enforcement campaign was aimed at making local roads safer and raising awareness about the risks of impaired driving. “Through the Labor Day safety campaign, we helped to make our roads safer and spread the word about the risks of impaired driving – ‘It’s Not a Game,’” Diss said in the release.

The sheriff’s office worked in collaboration with law enforcement agencies across Illinois as part of the statewide “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” and “Drive High Get a DUI” campaigns. The enforcement was supported by federal highway safety funds distributed through the Illinois Department of Transportation.

Authorities emphasized that the campaign was part of a broader effort to reduce impaired driving, encourage seat belt use, and improve overall road safety throughout the holiday weekend.
