Streator, IL – A Monday afternoon electrical fire damaged a two-story home in Streator, displacing four residents but causing no injuries, according to the Streator Fire Department.

According to fire officials, crews were dispatched by Vermilion Valley Dispatch to the 700 block of North Park Street at 4:26 p.m. Monday, December 22, after a passerby called 911 reporting smoke coming from the residence. First-arriving units were on scene by 4:30 p.m. and found heavy smoke coming from the second floor and attic of the home.

Firefighters established incident command and initiated an interior, offensive attack using a 1.88-inch hose line. Crews encountered heavy black smoke and active fire conditions in a second-floor bedroom. The fire was brought under control in less than 10 minutes, with suppression completed by 4:39 p.m.

Following knockdown, firefighters ventilated the home and conducted overhaul operations to extinguish hot spots. Tarps were deployed on the first floor to limit water damage. Crews remained on scene for just over 90 minutes, clearing at 5:54 p.m.

A total of 13 fire department personnel responded, including Chief 1, Engines 2 and 3, Tower 5, Rescue 4, Truck 7, and Medic 10. There were no injuries reported.

The Streator Fire Department completed the investigation and determined the fire was accidental and electrical in nature. The home sustained moderate damage overall, with severe smoke and fire damage to second-floor bedrooms.

The American Red Cross was requested to assist the four displaced residents.

Additional assistance at the scene was provided by the Streator Police Department, Nicor, ComEd, Illinois American Water, and Vermilion Valley Dispatch.
