LaSalle County, IL – Drivers across LaSalle County saw increased patrols during the Christmas and New Year’s holiday period, resulting in dozens of traffic citations and multiple arrests as part of a statewide safety enforcement effort.

According to the LaSalle County Sheriff’s Office, deputies participated in the Illinois “Click It or Ticket” campaign from Thursday, December 12, 2025, through Sunday, January 5, 2026, focusing on reducing crashes and improving roadway safety during one of the busiest travel times of the year.

The enforcement initiative targeted seat belt compliance, speeding, and distracted driving, all of which are major contributors to serious and fatal crashes, officials said.

During the campaign, the Sheriff’s Office reported issuing 36 speeding citations, along with three occupant restraint citations for seat belt violations. Deputies also cited nine drivers for electronic device use and issued 19 additional traffic citations for other violations.

Authorities confirmed the campaign also resulted in one traffic-related arrest for driving while license suspended (DWLS) and one criminal arrest stemming from an outstanding warrant.

Sheriff Adam Diss emphasized that the enforcement numbers reflect the department’s ongoing commitment to public safety throughout LaSalle County, which includes Ottawa and surrounding communities within the county and the greater north-central Illinois region.

Officials reminded drivers that failing to wear a seat belt can have deadly consequences and urged motorists to always buckle up, avoid distractions behind the wheel, and plan ahead for sober transportation—especially during holidays and special events.

Residents with questions about the campaign can contact the LaSalle County Sheriff’s Office for additional information.
