Las Vegas, Nevada – Dangerous heat and gusty winds are blanketing southern Nevada and the lower Colorado River Valley today, with temperatures climbing well above seasonal norms and wind gusts reaching up to 35 mph.
According to the National Weather Service Las Vegas, highs on Thursday are expected to peak at 107°F in Laughlin, 103°F in Las Vegas and Barstow, and 96°F in Kingman. The region will remain under mostly sunny skies, but strong southwesterly winds could kick up dust and lower visibility along major routes like I-15 and US-95.
Residents are urged to stay hydrated, avoid outdoor activity during peak afternoon hours, and secure loose outdoor items. The combination of heat and wind increases the risk of wildfires and power outages, especially in Clark County and San Bernardino County.
This surge of early summer heat follows a week of gradually rising temperatures, and forecasters warn it may persist into the weekend. Vulnerable groups—including the elderly, outdoor workers, and pets—should take extra precautions.
More updates will be issued if temperatures rise further or if Red Flag Warnings are activated.
