LAS VEGAS, Nev. – Southern Nevada is bracing for dangerous heat as an Extreme Heat Watch goes into effect from Wednesday through Saturday, bringing highs 5 to 10 degrees above normal and little overnight relief.
According to the National Weather Service in Las Vegas, afternoon temperatures will soar well above seasonal averages, with overnight lows remaining unusually warm. The prolonged heat is classified as a Level 3 risk, which can affect anyone without access to cooling or proper hydration.
Residents across Las Vegas, Henderson, and North Las Vegas are urged to limit time outdoors during peak afternoon hours and to check on vulnerable neighbors, including the elderly and those without air conditioning. Clark County officials warn that warm overnight conditions will compound the risk, as bodies have little chance to recover from daytime heat.
Travelers on I-15 and U.S. 95 should prepare for extreme vehicle heat and carry extra water. Emergency managers recommend drinking plenty of fluids, wearing light clothing, and never leaving children or pets in parked cars.
The Extreme Heat Watch remains in effect through Saturday, with additional advisories possible if temperatures climb higher than forecast.
