Las Vegas, Nevada – Southern Nevada’s stretch of intense summer heat is expected to continue through the week, with temperatures remaining well above seasonal averages and potentially climbing as high as 117 degrees by next weekend.
According to the National Weather Service in Las Vegas, confidence is high that temperatures will remain above normal through the next seven days. While forecasters are confident in the continued heat, there is still uncertainty regarding just how extreme temperatures could become later in the week as a strengthening area of high pressure builds over the Desert Southwest.
Daily high temperatures are expected to remain in the low to mid-110s through midweek before increasing late in the week. The most likely forecast range calls for highs around 112 degrees Monday through Thursday, rising to approximately 115 degrees Friday and 117 degrees Saturday. Typical late-July highs in Las Vegas are near 105 degrees, placing this week’s temperatures 7 to 12 degrees above normal.
The prolonged heat will increase the risk of heat-related illnesses, especially for people working outdoors, older adults and anyone without reliable air conditioning. Residents and visitors should drink plenty of water, avoid strenuous outdoor activity during the hottest part of the afternoon and never leave children or pets inside parked vehicles, where temperatures can become life-threatening within minutes.
The hottest conditions are expected during the afternoon and early evening each day, with limited overnight cooling offering little relief. Additional heat products may be issued if confidence increases that temperatures will exceed current expectations later this week.
