LAS VEGAS – Residents living near construction sites in Las Vegas could be waking up earlier as the city adjusts construction hours.

On Sept. 2, 2025, members of the Recommending Committee for the City of Las Vegas met to consider several agenda items, including an amendment to the city’s construction noise ordinance. Bill No. 2025-534, presented by Deputy Community Development Director Michael Cunningham, would align city rules with local regulations.

The ordinance will allow projects located more than 300 feet from occupied residences to begin at 5 a.m. during the summer months, April to September. Projects within 300 feet of homes will be allowed to start at 7 a.m.

“They’re trying to be mindful of existing residences and so they just have a couple of options where they’ll allow us to start a little bit earlier.” Said Cunningham.

He also said the changes were made to ensure worker safety during extreme summer heat, when daily highs often reach 105 degrees. Earlier this year, the Nevada Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) began enforcing new rules to safeguard workers in such conditions.

He acknowledged the potential impact on nearby residents but said building and safety officials would address any noise complaints. The committee approved the bill, which will go before the City Council for adoption on Sept. 17, 2025.
