LAS VEGAS — Retail theft remains a persistent issue across Southern Nevada, with law enforcement focusing increasingly on organized retail crime rather than isolated shoplifting incidents.

In 2025, the city of Las Vegas saw a 11% increase in organized retail crime over the year, and this year the trend continues. Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department statistics also showed a 12.7% increase in shoplifting compared with 2024. The latest numbers from the LVMPD’s weekly crime stats show that shoplifting continues to rise in 2026. In one week, 9 cases of shoplifting were reported.

Local law enforcement is focused on organized retail crime and working with retailers.

In November 2025, the Henderson Police Department (HPD) spent Black Friday tracking down thieves across the city. Detectives were stationed at several major retail stores. This effort, thanks to the HPD, retail partners, and Loss Prevention Officers, resulted in 19 arrests and 11 citations, with more than $5,200 in stolen merchandise recovered. Throughout the year, HPD recovered more than $7,000 in stolen merchandise.

Based on the reported cases, areas where theft happens the most are near major retail centers like the Summerlin area.
