LAS VEGAS — Following the increased waste from the holidays, residents are encouraged to review recycling rules.

Americans generate about 25% more waste during the holidays, according to Environment America To ensure recycling remains streamlined, Clark County has recycling rules that are reinforced year-round, especially in January.

Recycling guidelines vary by service area and can be found on the Republic Services website. The utility reminds residents that only paper, cardboard, metal cans, plastic bottles, and jugs can be placed in their recycling cart. All items should be emptied, rinsed, and dried, as dirty items can interfere with the recycling process. Recyclable items should not be placed in bags, and items like waxed cardboard, flexible plastic, and styrofoam containers are not to be included.

For specialty items such as batteries and electronics that contain hazardous materials, such as arsenic, lead, and mercury, residents can request a pack-back kit from the utility to safely dispose of them. Clark Green Neighbors also offers drop-off locations for hazardous household waste.

Clark County, in partnership with the Christmas Tree Recycling Committee, is currently running a Christmas tree recycling program through Jan. 15, 2026. Trees can be dropped off at local drop sites. All decorations, including lights, wires, tinsel, ornaments, and nails, must be removed before drop-off.
